Leigh-on-Sea Town Council hosted their second annual "Community Day” in Bonchurch Park on Sunday 9th June. The free event had a focus of health and well-being in the community, with a variety of stalls from local charities and community groups. Visitors were given the chance to learn more about how to get involved with educational courses, children’s groups, health and fitness classes and volunteering opportunities in the local area.
The day itself attracted approximately 800 visitors. There were 32 stallholders exhibiting, including, Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, RNLI, Leigh Society, West Leigh Baptist Church, The Royal British Legion, Leigh Lions, Southend Adult Community College, Southend YMCA, Broadway Belles WI, Yoga4all, Talking Tots, Seaside Circus and many more.
Performances also took place throughout the day from local dance and drama groups, Leigh Starlite Majorettes, N-Act Theatre Schools, PS Dance, Leigh-on-Sea TheatreTrain and the Feel-Good Choir.
Official guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Southend and MP, Sir David Amess.
The general feedback and response on the day was incredibly positive and the increase in numbers was noticed by all. The Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended and took part, and look forward to planning the event again next year.
