The White Bus Ltd is delighted to welcome you to the ninth annual Southend-on-Sea Film Festival, the largest film festival in Essex.
We are especially pleased to be bringing more ‘lost’ film to your attention! Following our presentation of the Peter Sellers films in 2015, our Opening Gala will showcase previously ‘lost’ footage of our town’s famous Kursaal amusement park. As a local lad who well remembers the Kursaal in its heyday, I am particularly delighted to be presenting this to you. And, if you can’t get a ticket for the Opening Gala, we’ll be repeating the show on Monday 29th May.
We are also delighted that, for the first time, we’ll be presenting two shows using ‘real’ film: Yet another previously-thought lost film, the second reel of Laurel & Hardy’s classic comedy The Battle of the Centuryand a very special Gerry Anderson show.
Alongside these exciting shows we are taking our customary look at new British films. This year, these include the outstanding features My Feral Heart, Common Peopleand BitterSuite, some wonderful documentaries and our Closing Gala, the amazing fantasy comedy AmStarDam .
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support that you, and our sponsors, provide, and we thank you all most sincerely.
The Festival Team and I look forward to welcoming you to the
Southend-on-Sea Film Festival.
Paul Cotgrove, Festival Director
