Work has begun on Belton Gardens Bridge (over the railway into Old Leigh) to repair and refurbish the expansion joints set into the road and footway surface. This is a substantial undertaking and work is programmed to continue until 22nd December.
It will require two phases of work, and also extensive traffic control for the whole duration of the project. The parking on the bridge deck will be suspended throughout, to allow for 2-way traffic control with temporary signals. These lights will be covered by a 24-hour call-out service in case of break-down.
The work will be carried out by the Southend Borough Council’s Highways Maintenance Contractor, Marlborough Surfacing Ltd. Marlborough have produced a circular letter, which has been circulated to affected residents and businesses with contact information included.
